Design Your Own Wedding Dress
"...And they all lived happily ever after." These words sum up all fairy tales. For many young women, the climax of their own fairy tale is not these words, or even meeting their own Prince Charming. Most young women live for that walk down the aisle, in the wedding dress of their own personal fairy tale come true.
To get that one special dress, for the occasion of your life, you need to design your own wedding dress. It does not matter if you are not artistically gifted, or if you are unable to sew. All that you need, as a bride-to-be, is a clear picture of your dream. You can get help from an experienced designer to attain the visual impact you want, and a seamstress will be able to turn the abstract paper pattern into the wedding dress that your dreams are made of.
A custom made dress is possible on even the tightest of budgets. There are many talented people working from home who are able to design, cut, and sew a wedding dress from any pattern. When planning your gown, a process that probably started when you were still wearing ponytails and pinafores, with a gap where your first teeth came out, you need to be aware that a wedding dress is basically just another dress. It’s what the dress symbolizes that is the chief differentiator from other garments. There are only four basic designs, namely the A-line, silhouette, mermaid, and ball gown. Each style will suit a particular body shape, and this is where you need to begin your project.
Visit the local mall and try on various items in each style, to determine which will best show off your uniqueness. Once you have done this, you will be able to work on the details. With a sketchpad and a pencil, design your own wedding dress. Draw a figure, and start the process. Sketch a bodice, and a skirt. If you cannot draw, make lines with notes of what you want. In the waist area, sketch in a waistband. Do you want sleeves? Must they be short, long, three quarter? Must they be flared, tapered, or puffy?
Add some detail to the skirt. Give it length and body, if required. Will your skirt end at the floor, above your ankles, on the knee, or higher? How will your bodice appear? Must it be tight, do you want to expose some or a lot of cleavage, or no cleavage at all? Give the back of your gown special attention, as this is what people in the church will see most of. Do you want a high or low back? Do you want a train, and if so, how long must it be?
Design your own wedding dress with special attention to detail. The color you choose, and the decorations and accessories you select, will all play a crucial part in making this garment the most memorable of your life.
A beautiful memory, of a beautiful day, deserves a beautiful dress.
